Girija Shastri Memorial Trust A person gains prominence and recognition by virtue of inner strength, not from any physical parameters. Smt. Girija Shastri personified this proverb. As an ordinary housewife from the middle class family she worked for the cause of children and women who were deprived of opportunities. This “Indomitable Spirit” is the inspiration for Adamya Chetana Adamya Chetana:  Adamya Chetana Adamya Chetana Foundation is a society registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act. It began as Smt. Girija Sastri Memorial Trust, a public charitable trust, working in the areas of education and health in Bangalore. Its various initiatives include A unique Mobile Teaching-Learning Facility called “Aata Paatha” that reaches a total of 34 schools Vocational training programmes in Computers and Tailoring for girls who pass out of government schools Free Tailoring and Computer Education Adamya Chetana:  Adamya Chetana Adamya Chetana Foundation has adopted eight government schools under the Government of Karnataka School Adoption Programme. Facilitation of infrastructure improvement Provision of school uniforms, note-books, stationery etc Health check–up in partnership with the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Vasanthnagar, Bangalore MIDDAY MEAL:  MIDDAY MEAL Mahatma Gandhi said “ To an empty stomach food is God” Starvation is a curse on Indian Society. Almost all children studying in government schools come from extremely poor backgrounds. One nutritious hot meal a day is a dream to many of them Because of the poor nourishment, their health status is a grave concern. This tells not only on their performance in school but is also detrimental to their long term health. ANNAPOORNA – OUR OBJECTIVES:  ANNAPOORNA – OUR OBJECTIVES ADAMYA CHETANA started ANNAPOORNA to feed poor undernourished school children, who deserve to have at least one hot nutritious meal a day. ANNAPOORNA has taken up the task of providing hot nutritious midday meal to every child studying in sixty seven Government Schools of Bangalore. The midday meal programme State Government – Under Akshara Dasoha is supporting us by providing Re. 1.00 per child per meal. Central Government - Akshaya Patra named by our beloved Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajapeyee supports the project by providing main ingredient RICE. Food needs to be prepared at school under teacher’s management. ANNAPOORNA – OUR OBJECTIVES:  ANNAPOORNA – OUR OBJECTIVES The Central and State Governments’ efforts of providing midday meal to all children is a welcome measure. Teachers have to put in lot of time and energy to prepare the midday meal. This takes away teaching time.Through Annapoorna we are able to save the time of teachers. Preparing food in schools without proper infrastructure is hazardous. Also it is difficult to maintain minimum levels of nutritive value in the food. ANNAPOORNA – THE COMMITMENT:  ANNAPOORNA – THE COMMITMENT Our commitment from Adamya Chetana is to provide a hot nutritious tasty meal, that will reach every child that we have on our list, in time every working day throughout the year. 13,200 children of 67 schools at Bangalore are being provided Midday Meal by Adamya Chetana ANNAPOORNA – OUR COMMITMENT :  ANNAPOORNA – OUR COMMITMENT High Nutrition Value 100 grams of Rice 20 grams of Pulses 30 grams of vegetables High standard of Hygiene Transport & Distribution free from contamination Good Manufacturing Practices [GMP] Fresh, Hot Midday Meal on time, day after day ANNAPOORNA INFRASTRUCTURE:  ANNAPOORNA INFRASTRUCTURE ANNAPOORNA has created an excellent infrastructure to cater to the noble objective of providing Hot Midday meals to 20,000 school children. COOKING FACILITIES / KITCHEN – A battery of high quality stainless steel vessels for cooking rice, sambar, vegetables & other items on the menu, housed in 2000 square feet area. STORAGE – 720 square feet of clean area which can accommodate 500 Quintals of rice / 100 quintals of pulses and other raw materials at a time. Separate store for vegetables and other items ANNAPOORNA – THE INFRASTRUCTURE:  ANNAPOORNA – THE INFRASTRUCTURE THE ENTIRE INFRASTRUCTURE steam cooking vessels, boilers and containers IS FUNDED BY SHRI. SINCE THIS IS A SOCIAL CAUSE, OUR AIM IS TO SERVE THE MIDDAY MEAL AT THE LOWEST COST. The cost of preparation and supply of hot meals to 13,200 children of 67 schools is Rs. 3.75 per child per meal - State Government provides Re. 1.00 per child per meal - Central Government is provides 100gms rice per child per meal The shortage after getting rice and Re 1.0 from the Government is Rs 1.50 per day per child TO MAKE UP FOR THE SHORTAGE ANNAPOORNA SPENDS RS.20,OOO PER DAY PER CHILD COST PER YEAR (250 days) IS Rs. 400 Here’s what YOU can do. Community Involvement:  Community Involvement Pro-active efforts to involve all stakeholders in the project. Close interaction with officials of the Department of Education like the Block Education Officer and the Headmaster/ Headmistress of the schools. Mechanisms to involve the local community, parents, the School Development and Monitoring Committee are on. Local elected representatives like Corporaters, MLA’s MP’s of various wards Adamya Chetana also has a large group of volunteers who have pledged their time to this project as when required A sustained effort of this type requires a continuous flow of funds.
