You can see the physical part. That is your BODY, called the “outward man” in the Bible. Your other two parts cannot be seen with your physical eyes, because those parts are NOT physical. 2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. The second part of you is your SOUL.. Your soul is your conscious AWARENESS of things around you. It is what makes you who you are! It is the seat of your personality, and makes you a little bit different from everyone else. Your soul is called the “inward man”, or “inner man” in the Bible. Ephesians 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; Your five natural senses are “doors” to your soul. Through these five “doors” you become conscious or AWARE of your surroundings. But your soul cannot become aware of God through your natural senses alone. You cannot physically SEE God, etc. So how do you become aware of God? That is a function of your spirit which is within your soul. There will be more about this function later. The third part of you is your SPIRIT. It is more difficult to be aware of your spirit than any other part of you, even though it is operating all the time. Your spirit is the source, and also the force or strength of your natural life. It determines HOW you think, while your soul determines WHAT you think, and the location of your physical brain determines WHERE you do your thinking. For instance, your attitudes and motives come from your spirit. The Bible calls your spirit the “hidden man of the heart”. 1 Peter 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. Look again at the diagram on the front page. This helps you to see that your spirit is the innermost part of you. It is within your soul, but on a deeper level than just the awareness of your soul. Your spirit is inside the core of your being. The Bible calls this core your “heart” and modern terminology calls it “your sub-conscious” mind. Both your spirit and your soul are inside your living body. HUMAN SOULS ARE NOT IMMORTAL YET The human soul is not immortal as is the common and popular belief. It can die spiritually, naturally or both! God tells us…. 2 Slide3:  Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. but general humanity still believes what the serpent said... Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: And to clinch the matter, God has given immortality only to Jesus so far….. 1 Timothy 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light (God) which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. John 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; The true gospel of Jesus Christ exposes the false doctrines that men hold so tightly….. 2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:….. Consider this thought: if our souls are already immortal, why should the scriptures encourage us to seek after it as in….. Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, Eternal life. For the soul to become immortal, it needs to be saved first, and then become conformed to the image of the ONLY ONE who has been given immortality at this time! But, let’s leave this point and go on to study bodies, souls and spirits. ANIMAL PARTS: BODIES, SOULS AND SPIRITS Even animals have body, soul and spirit. But they are ANIMAL bodies, ANIMAL souls and ANIMAL spirits. Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life ( vpn “neph-esh” or “soul” in Hebrew) of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. Ecclesiastes 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? This last scripture emphasizes the main difference between the spirits of a human and a beast. The human spirit is always trying to “go upward” or get back to the place it fell from. It is still trying to “be as gods, knowing good and evil” (Gen. 3:4,5). The spirit of a beast or animal is content to be what God has made it, and has no aspirations or hope to be more than it is. Animal SOULS are also aware and have feelings. They know when they are loved or being mistreated. They can think and reason to various extents, and they each have a will of 3 Slide4:  their own. This is their animal soul in operation and they, like us, also have different “personalities”. However, their spirits are animal spirits which are strongly influenced by their bodies. Therefore, animal souls operate mostly by instinct rather than relying on intellect like humans. GOD’S PARTS: SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY God also has His own spirit, soul and body, but just not like ours. We are created, but the only true God was not. He has always existed and always will exist. This is hard for us to comprehend because everything we see has an end except God. Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Exodus 33:23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. He created mankind in His own image, after His own likeness and also in His form or shape, and that shape is not that of a beast or of a jelly-like blob without form. Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Philippians 2:6 Who, (referring to Jesus), being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: PREDOMINATE PARTS The scriptures say that God IS a Spirit….. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. This has led many to think that God does not have a soul, or that He does not have a body. But we have scriptures to show that He has all three. So why does the scripture identify God as SPIRIT? That is because God’s Spirit is foremost, or in the ruling place within His Being. Therefore, the scriptures say that God is mainly a SPIRIT which has a soul and a body. In contrast, humans in general, are mainly called SOULS which have spirits and bodies. In even further contrast, animals are mainly BODIES which have souls and spirits. It all depends on what part is most in-fluential over the rest. Note how the scriptures show this….. 1 Peter 3:20b ….in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved 4 Slide5:  by water. Peter is counting only Noah’s family as “souls” and doesn’t include the creatures in the ark which also had souls, and also were saved. This identification of God’s children as “souls” will change as we grow up into Christ in all things. As we become more spiritual, we become less “soulish”. Our souls will manifest more and more of the life of Christ and God will then call us “spirits”….. Hebrews 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,… Hebrews 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels (messengers) spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. DIVINE ORDER WITHIN THE SOUL, ITSELF Consider how God operated in the creation. Before He spoke the words, “Let their be light!”, He obviously thought it out. He did not just blurt words out of His mouth without thinking like we sometimes do. Obviously God thought first. Secondly, He willed an action. That’s when He spoke. THIRDLY He felt an emotion about it. He “saw that it was good.” All of this was the activity in God’s soul: first His thoughts, then His will, and His emotion afterwards.   Genesis 1:3-4 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. But God’s primary MOTIVE, His SPIRIT, was the foundation of all His thinking, acting and feeling. That motive or Spirit was LOVE! And that love was primarily for His Son, Jesus,….. Colossians 1:16 For by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by (or through) him, and for him: Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Common humanity is not like God in this. Our souls are also affected by our spirits, but unlike God, our human, Adamic spirits are contaminated by our fleshly bodies because of Adam’s sin in Eden. When a man’s spirit resists God’s Spirit, it causes our souls to be restricted to the life and nature of the flesh. This is why God sent His Son to be the Captain of our salvation and save our souls. Until that salvation can change us, we tend to feel emotion first, act on it, and then think about it afterwards. The results are not very good so we try to reason first, then see how 5 Slide6:  we feel about it and lastly decide to act. All of this is just “moving dust” around. We are operating blindly because we don’t yet know “what spirit” is motivating us. Luke 9:54-55 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. God wants all His children to examine themselves to see what spirit is operating in their thoughts, emotions and wills. What does He mean by that? Can a man’s soul be influenced by different spirits? The answer is “YES”, and if we are willing, God is willing to give our souls enough light to examine ourselves! 1 Corinthians 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 2 Corinthians 13:5a Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. DIFFERENT SPIRITS, DIFFERENT INFLUENCES What kind of spirits are available to influence our souls? There are many: the Holy Spirit which is God’s spirit, Jesus’ spirit, angel spirits, evil spirits, our own human spirit and other human spirits. Some people are even affected by an animal’s spirit! It is a whole invisible world out there, and our heavenly Fa- Ther doesn’t want His children to be blind to it. Matthew 15:12-14 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Matthew 13:15-16 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. Note that Jesus is not talking about physical ears and eyes, because they all had those in their BODIES. He wasn’t even talking about their natural hearing and seeing because they had those two senses in their SOULS. He is actually referring to SPIRITUAL ears and eyes! Without them, we are spiritually “deaf” and “blind”. Where do spiritual “ears” and “eyes” come from? How do they operate inside us? How do they affect our souls? Does this have anything to do with being “born again”? HOW is a person born again? What is born? Our souls? Certainly not our bodies! 6 Slide7:  7 Thank God, the answers are in the scriptures! ONLY TWO SPIRITUAL FATHERS John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. It is impossible for the flesh to produce spirit. Only a spirit can produce a spirit, and that makes one the father of the other. There are TWO spiritual fathers mentioned in the scriptures, God and the devil… John 8:42-44 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. SPIRITUAL CONCEPTION There is no birth without a conception! Many Christians talk today about being “born again”, but few, if any, know when a person is conceived by the Holy Ghost. Most are con-fused and think their spiritual conception is their spiritual birth. There is such a big change, that it is understandable, and the feeling of becoming “new” is genuine! How-ever, being conceived and being born are two separate experiences. They are NOT the same thing! Jesus was born in the natural, but first he had to be conceived in his mother’s womb. Mary’s womb provided the egg. That egg contained only half the substance necessary to produce a human being, and there was nothing in that half that would produce a male child. Only the father of a child can produce the other half of the genetic structure, and only that half includes the genes necessary to make the child to be male. God, the Father in heaven provided the substance to fertilize that egg, and that substance was in his WORD. God SPOKE the very essence of His pre-existing Son into Mary’s womb. God’s word ADDED something to her genetic contribution, and a male body was born which contained all the original genetic elements that were in Adam. Jesus was a true “son of man” through Mary, and also a true “Son of God”…. Matthew 1:20-21 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Slide8:  Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam (Jesus) was made a quickening spirit. So this was how Jesus was conceived and made in the flesh, but how about us? We already have the full physical genetic setup to be complete humans. We are all born of the flesh of our fathers and mothers. We already have spirits and souls. Our human spirits and souls were born of their human spirits and souls along with our bodies. Yet Jesus told Nicodemus…. John 3:3,7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. …..Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. We already have bodies. We already have souls. We already have spirits, yet we need to be born again! Born of the SPIRIT OF GOD so that God will truly be our Father and we will truly be His sons and daughters. Our bodies (same bodies) only need to be REDEEMED, our souls (same souls) only need to be SAVED, so it is our SPIRIT, or at least PART of it, that needs to be born from above and then renewed from time to time. Romans 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; To be a genuine, new creature, there has to be something from the mother AND also the father. God tells us what His part is… the same thing He gave to father His Son Jesus… 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. So what part can we offer as our “egg”? Certainly it is not from our physical body, nor from the thoughts, emotions and will of our souls. It has to be something FROM OUR HUMAN SPIRIT. To find out exactly what it is, we need to dig deeper in the scriptures. PARTS OF A SPIRIT There are three major parts of any spirit whether it be God’s spirit, a human spirit or the spirit of a beast. The first is a kind of “knowing” which is not something that comes from being taught. In a beast, it is mainly “instinctive”. In a hu-man, it is more “intellectual”. In God and His children, it is more “intuitive” or “discerning”. However, it is a kind of “knowing” in all cases, 8 Slide9:  9 and that is how the Bible uses it. 1 Corinthians 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. This helps us understand why we must be conceived and born of God. It is impossible for us to know God or the things of God by our human spirit. The human spirit has very little of God’s influence left in it, and our natural tendency is to corrupt ourselves. Jude 1:10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. Our human spirit is strongly influenced by our bodies, with our souls caught in between. As we resist the “gravitational pull” of our fleshly natures, we end up identifying ourselves by our reasoning, emotions and will rather than just our physical bodies like animals. However, when a man lets his body rule over him, he has little or no preeminence over an animal. The scriptures say….. Ps 73:22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. Ec 3:18,19 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. Another identifiable part of a spirit is “communion” or “fellowship” (The words are one and the same in Greek). This is harder to understand; but a good example of this function of spirit would be to put a wet sponge into a box of dry sponges. What will happen? The dry sponges will get wetter and the wet sponge will get dryer until they are balanced. This is what the scriptures mean by “communion” or “fellowship”. It’s literal meaning is “common-becoming”, and “com- mon-being”. This is why the Bible says….. Proverbs 22:24-25 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. We will become like those we fellowship or “hang out” with. That is an automatic function of spirit. This is a good reason why parents should know who their children’s friends are. God wants His children to have spiritual fellowship or communion with His Spirit….. 2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion (fellowship) of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.   Slide10:  10 1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. There is no fellowship or communion through the Holy Spirit with unbelievers. 1 John 1:6,7 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. The last major function of our spirit is our conscience. This is the most obvious and recognizable part of our spirits. Why is it part of our spirits? It is not a part of our physical body and it can disagree and stand against the soul’s thoughts, emotions and will. The con- science is a part of our spirit. FORMATION WITHIN OF OUR NEW MAN Our conscience is the only thing left in our spirits that retains some memory of God’s touch in the garden of Eden, and it is the ONLY PART of our human spirit that God will touch today. It is the conscience part of a human spirit that serves as the “EGG”. What serves as the “seed” that will fertilize the “egg”? That “seed” is the word of the Only True God….. 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. There can come a time when a person’s conscience becomes sick of it’s spiritual stagnation. If it does, it begins to separate itself from it’s old “communion/fellowship” and “natural knowing” and seeks outside itself. It is then ready for a visit from God. If God’s word cannot penetrate a person’s conscience, God does not have that person. The human conscience is the only part of us that is able to rightly respond to God’s Spirit. When God draws near, and speaks, and the conscience DOES receive God’s word, it becomes the spiritual embryo of our NEW MAN. This is also called the “hidden man” of the heart. Now we can begin to be filled with God’s Spirit. God’s communion/fellowship and God’s “knowing” become joined with our conscience and we feel like we are resurrecting from the dead, and it is true! All this spiritual activity takes place within the soul, so the soul is filled with fruits of God’s spirit like love, joy, and peace. Hope fills our thoughts and eases our minds. Our will begins to change and many habits start to drop off of us. Five new and spiritual senses begin to form Slide11:  11 in our spirits….. Matthew 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. Philippians 4:18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: This makes our soul begin to come alive toward God. We can hear things in our souls that we never heard before, and understand things we never understood before. God is living within us and we now KNOW He is our Father, and that we are His children! This is the common experience of all God’s children. It has absolutely nothing to do with what church they attend or even what they might believe in their heads. It has everything to do with our submission and complete yielding to God and His ways. And God Himself bears witness to it with our newly conceived spirit! Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: … Let’s not forget that Light has no fellowship with darkness, so God’s Spirit cannot possibly be bearing witness with our old human spirit! A further note: It is interesting that some people today believe that if you do not have the baptism of the Holy Ghost, you are not a part of God’s family. This is totally untrue. Anyone who has been conceived of the Holy Ghost has God as their Father. We should be careful how we speak about them, and how we treat them…. Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. NATURAL ISRAEL WAS CONCEIVED BUT NOT BORN Knowing that conception must precede birth, it is interesting that Jesus told the Jewish man Nicodemus that he only needed to be BORN. He was one of those who was already conceived…. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. And look at God’s testimony through the prophet Isaiah….. Isaiah 66:8,9 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as Slide12:  12 soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God. Then God gave us the example of a whole family that was FILLED with the Holy Ghost BEFORE the day of Pentecost. Zachariah and his wife Elizabeth were both filled with the Holy Ghost and also their son, John the baptist. Each of them prophesied under that anointing…. Luke 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,… . Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: Luke 1:15 For he (John the baptist) shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. Let’s not forget that ears and eyes are formed in the womb, and that Jesus was looking for those who could hear through the womb, even though their eyes couldn’t see much yet… Matthew 13:9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 4:23 and 7:16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Proverbs 20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. And where does the Lord make them? In the spiritual womb, when the nature of Christ begins to form in us… Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,…. and when that formation is complete, we have come “full term” and are ready to be BORN of the Spirit of God.   BORN OF THE SPIRIT With some people it happens quite fast and with others it takes more time. But when we are ready, God is ready. God’s Spirit is poured out upon us and our new spirit erupts up and out of our innermost being, speaking in an unknown tongue….. 1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. It is certainly not our OLD spirit praying, for our old spirit, called our “old man,” shares no understanding or fellowship with God. And this is not the Holy Spirit praying through us, for why should God pray to Himself? This is Slide13:  13 OUR NEW spirit that is born of our heavenly Father’s Spirit. After all, Jesus promised us…. John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Jesus gives us that “water” from the INSIDE of us where he resides with our conscience. That “water” helps protect us while Christ is being formed within us. Since the day of Pentecost, many of us have not only been conceived, but gone on to be born of the Spirit. At that point, we are spiritual babies and can profit from the apostle Peter’s advice: 1 Peter 2:2-3 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. OUR “OLD” MAN The parts of your old human spirit that are forsaken by the conscience are what makes up what the scriptures call the “old man”. Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; Now we begin learning how to “put off” our personal “old man”. This means we first stop letting ourselves be influenced by our old spirit of “communion/fellowship” and “knowing naturally”. Secondly, we begin to cleanse our souls from the messes our old man left behind. It is very important to put off the old man. Why? Because our old spirit no longer has a conscience working in it and it will tend to be-come more and more corrupt. Woe to the man or woman who gives into their “old man” again until they are overcome by him. He will overwhelm and sear their conscience….. 2 Peter 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. The Bible shows a type of our new spirit or new man cleansing the soul from the “leftovers” of the old man. It is the nation of Israelites learning how to possess Canaan land and cleanse it from all the wickedness of it’s former inhabitants. But it takes patience….. Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls. Exodus 23:29-30 I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be Slide14:  14 increased, and inherit the land. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour Complete sanctification is what the One True God desires for His children, and accord-ing to the scriptures, it is to be applied to our human spirit, our human soul and our human body. 1Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through our spirit submitting to God’s Spirit, we can learn how to possess our souls and keep our bodies “under subjection”. This, in turn, allows the Lord to save our soul from being bound to our natural bodies when they die. When we cast off these bodies, the soul can live on because it is already fully resur-rected to life. 2 Corinthians 5:4-5 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 1Corinthians 15:44-49 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Hopefully this will help in your understand-ing of body, soul and spirit. May God bless your entering all the way into His kingdom!   SCRIPTURES ON THE CONSCIENCE:   FUNCTION OF IT: John 8:9 convicted Rom. 2:15 bearing witness Rom. 9:1 bearing witness CHANGING OF IT: Heb. 9:9 law could not… “ 9:14 can be purged “ 10 2 once purged “ 10:22 sprinkled from 1 Pet. 3:21 the answer HARMING IT: 1 Cor. 8:7,10,12 wounding 1 Tim. 4:2 seared Titus 1:15 defiled HELPING OTHERS: 1 Cor. 10:27-33 eating and not offending GOALS FOR IT: Acts 23:1 lived in good “ 24:16 exercise “ 13:5 be subject 2 Cor. 1:12 testimony “ 4:2 commending 1 Tim. 1:5,19 good “ 3:9 pure 2 Tim. 1:3 serve God with Heb. 13:8 trust a good 1 Pet. 2:19 thankworthy “ 3:16 have a good
