Comparison of Mitsubishi Mirage vs Nissan Micra: Mitsubishi Mirage Nissan Micra Comparison of Mitsubishi Mirage vs Nissan Micra Value: Mitsubishi Mirage from $12,990 Nissan Micra from $15,748 4/5 Star The Mirage is sharp buying at the moment - $12,990 drive-away for a manual, $14,990 auto, which means about $3000 off the full recommended retail. Capped-price servicing is among the cheapest in the class ($250 for each annual visit over three years). Downside: capped pricing expires after four years even though the warranty lasts five. Metallic paint adds $495. 2/5 Star The price of a Micra has fluctuated wildly since it was launched three years ago, despite coming from low-cost Thailand, India or Indonesia. The starting price is high ($15,748 drive-away for a manual, $17,293 auto; it used to limbo to $12,990 drive-away for a manual). It has by far the dearest capped price servicing in the class: $1657 over three years (six monthly). Metallic paint adds $495. Value Design: Mitsubishi Mirage Nissan Micra 3/5 Star The Mirage is comfortable enough even though it is slightly smaller than the Micra and has a slightly smaller boot. Could do with more or bigger storage cubbies. 4/5 Star Slightly longer and taller than the Mirage, the Micra has greater headroom and a slightly bigger boot. Vision all-round is excellent, thanks to the large window design. Good storage cubbies. Design Technology: Mitsubishi Mirage Nissan Micra 4/5 Star The Mirage also has a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine but it's a different design to the Nissan's, and much more economical, sipping just 4.6L/100km (about $400 less a year on fuel based on the national annual average of 15,000km). 2/5 Star The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine might sound thrifty but it's not: 6.5L/100km is typical consumption for the next size up. Over a year, the Micra automatic would use at least $400 more in fuel than a Mirage automatic. Technology Safety: Mitsubishi Mirage Nissan Micra 4/5 Star Six airbags, stability control and five-star safety rating. As with the rival, the Jazz's standard fitment of a rear camera exposes its lack of parking sensors or camera as a weak point. 3/5 Star Six airbags and stability control yet it earns only a four-star safety rating at a time when most cars rate five stars. Now that the $14,990 Honda Jazz has a rear camera as standard, it makes the lack of parking sensors or a camera conspicuously absent. Safety Driving: Mitsubishi Mirage Nissan Micra 3/5 Star The Mirage's slightly larger footprint should make it a more pleasant drive than the Micra . It's comfortable over bumps when driving in a straight line yet it jiggles around in bumpy corners more than it ought to. Turning circle (9.2m) is excellent, even if marginally broader than the Micra's . 4/5 Star This may seem hard to believe but the little Nissan Micra drives so well that it very nearly won Car of the Year in 2011. It steers beautifully, has the tightest turning circle (9.0 metres) after the Smart ForTwo and soaks up bumps with ease.
