DVC: The Real Conspiracy:  DVC: The Real Conspiracy Glen Arbor Community Church Greg Standinger May 14th, 2006 FACT:  FACT The Priory of Sion — a European secret society founded in 1099 — is a real organization. In 1975 Paris’s Bibliotheque Nationale discovered parchments known as Les Dossiers Secrets identifying numerous members of the Priory of Sion, including Sir Isaac Newton, Sandro Botticelli, Victor Hugo and Leonardo Da Vinci. The Vatican prelature known as Opus Dei is a deeply devout Catholic that has been the topic of recent controversy due to reports of brainwashing, coercion, and a dangerous practice known as ‘corporal mortification.’ Opus Dei has just completed construction of a $47 million National Headquarters at 243 Lexington Avenue in New York City. All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate. www.danbrown.com:  www.danbrown.com BUT DOESN'T THE NOVEL'S "FACT" PAGE CLAIM THAT EVERY SINGLE WORD IN THIS NOVEL IS HISTORICAL FACT? If you read the "FACT" page, you will see it clearly states that the documents, rituals, organization, artwork, and architecture in the novel all exist. The "FACT" page makes no statement whatsoever about any of the ancient theories discussed by fictional characters. Interpreting those ideas is left to the reader. Louvre Pyramid:  Louvre Pyramid …had been constructed of exactly 666 panes of glass – a bizarre request that had always been a hot topic among conspiracy buffs who claimed 666 was the number of Satan – DVC p 40 Slide5:  Rev 13:[18] Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six. 673 Panes of Glass (not 666):  673 Panes of Glass (not 666) www.danbrown.com:  www.danbrown.com WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CONSPIRACY THEORIST? Hardly. In fact, I'm quite the opposite--more of a skeptic. I see no truth whatsoever in stories of extraterrestrial visitors, crop circles, the Bermuda Triangle, or many of the other "mysteries" that permeate pop culture. However, the secret behind The Da Vinci Code was too well documented and significant for me to dismiss. DVC Pedestal:  DVC Pedestal The Sacred Feminine (new religion) Platform: Da Vinci (expert witness) First Leg: Story – (Source Code) Second Leg: The Conspiracy Third Leg: Marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene Slide10:        ¥ Slide11:  There is no department of Religious symbology at Harvard Pentacle:  Pentacle This symbol, a five pointed star within a circle represents “the female half of all things – a concept religious historians call the sacred feminine, or the divine goddess.. in its most specific interpretation, the pentacle symbolizes Venus the goddess of female sexual love and beauty, DVC p36 Pentacle:  Pentacle There is no specific interpretation Religious historians don’t say this. the pentagram does not represent Venus only In ancient Astrology (3000 to 2500 bc)– Jupiter , Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Venus Currently used by neopagan organizations and Satanists (Anton Levi who first started using it upside down for Satanists) relatively recent. According to WICCA - no definitive source or origin for the five pointed star and it’s birth is lost in the midst of time. Pentacle: Other Claims:  Pentacle: Other Claims DVC Claim: The planet Venus traces a perfect pentacle across the elliptical sky over 8 years. It looks more like a polygraph. Pentacle: Other Claims:  Pentacle: Other Claims DVC Claim: The pentagram was to be used for the Olympics first held by the Greeks in honor of Venus every eight years and almost used the pentagram but choose at the last moment the 5 rings we have today. Olympic Games were in honor of Zeus not Venus Every 4 years not 8 How did he know it was the last moment? 5 rings represent the five continents and the colors are in every flag of every nation– The five rings didn’t come about until 1920. Other Symbols:  Other Symbols = woman = man  Other DVC Claims:  Other DVC Claims Early Jewish tradition involved ritualistic sex in the temple in honor of God and His powerful female equal Shekinah. There is no historical evidence for this statement. YHWH:  YHWH The Jewish Tetragrammoton YHWH - the sacred name of God - is derived from Jehovah, an androgynous physical union between the masculine Jah and the pre-Hebraic name for Eve, Havah. ( DVC p309) YHWH:  YHWH Other way around, Jehovah is from the year 1500 when Jewish scribes began inserting vowels. Havah is not pre-Hebraic (what ever that means), It is the exact word found in the OT Havah is the Hebrew word for “life” Jah isn’t even a word in Hebrew. Was everyone a pagan worshipper of the female?:  Was everyone a pagan worshipper of the female? Jews were not pagan female worshipers God was not thought to have a powerful female consort. Greeks / Romans / others worshipped many Gods – both female and male gods including animals The Bible :  The Bible Teabing cleared his throat and declared, “The Bible did not arrive by fax from heaven.” “The Bible is a product of man, my dear. Not of God. The Bible did not fall magically from the clouds. Man created it as a historical record of tumultuous times, and it has evolved through countless translations, additions, and revisions. History has never had a definitive version of the book.” (page 231) The Bible:  The Bible FACT: The Bible we have today was completed within the first century. (undisputed) 5600 copies that are in agreement. (if there were rewrites , why don’t we see them) History has never had a definitive version of the book? - bogus After the canon was settled upon in the late fourth century, the only “changes” that have occurred have been a more faithful rendering of the original Hebrew and Greek. There have been no additions to the text. “Revisions” are simply translations to keep up with changes in language Has the Bible been changed over the years? NO!!!! The Bible is translated from the original language directly into our language (not telephone tag) 5600 Greek manuscripts spread throughout the world dating as early as the second century. Evidence of the Dead Sea Scrolls The Bible :  The Bible Teabing burst with enthusiasm. “The fundamental irony of Christianity! The Bible, as we know it today, was collated by the pagan Roman emperor Constantine the Great.” (page 231) “The twist is this,” Teabing said, talking faster now. “Because Constantine upgraded Jesus’ status almost four centuries after Jesus’ death, thousands of documents already existed chronicling His life as a mortal man. To rewrite the history books, Constantine needed a bold stroke. From this sprang the most profound moment in Christian history.” Teabing paused, eyeing Sophie. “Constantine commissioned and financed a new Bible, which omitted those gospels that spoke of Christ’s human traits and embellished those gospels that made Him godlike. The earlier gospels were outlawed, gathered up and burned.” (page 234) The Bible:  The Bible There were no gospels considered at the Council of Nicea other than Matthew, Mark, Luke and John There were no “gospels” gathered up and burnt after Nicea, although the writings of Arius were outlawed and burnt. Arius wrote no gospel nor did he dispute the accepted gospels. Jesus “human traits” were spoken of in each of the four gospels. Christians believe Jesus to be fully human as well as fully God. There is no evidence that any gospel accounts of Jesus were ever “embellished” following the Council of Nicea The New Testament cannon was already being formed long before Nicea. The Bible:  The Bible The Maratorian Cannon included Matthew, Mark, Luke, John Acts Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon James, 1 & 2 John, Jude Revelation of John Revelation of Peter Wisdom of Solomon The Gnostic Gospels:  The Gnostic Gospels The books “excluded from the cannon included “Secret Gospels” found in 1945 at Nag Hammadi The Gospel of Thomas (claims you need to be a man to go to heaven) The Gospel of Barnabas The Gospel of Phillip (used greatly for DVC later) The Gospel of Truth The Gospel to the Egyptians The Apocalypse of Paul The Apocalypse of Peter The Letter of Peter to Phillip The Thunder, Perfect Mind Testimony of Truth The Gnostic Gospels:  The Gnostic Gospels Why were these “excluded” books not included in the Cannon Although they took the name of apostles, there is no evidence any of them were actually written by one of the apostles They were written between 150 – 350 AD There is no evidence they ever enjoyed wide-spread acceptance in the early church They were collections of sayings, rather than the life of Jesus They were filled with strange teaching contrary to the doctrine of the apostles Dead Sea Scrolls :  Dead Sea Scrolls “Fortunately for historians,” Teabing said, “some of the gospels that Constantine attempted to eradicate managed to survive. The Dead Sea Scrolls were found in the 1950’s hidden in a cave near Qumran in the Judean desert.” The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947. The Dead Sea Scrolls were primarily writings that proceeded the time of Jesus They contained no gospels other than potentially a brief reference from Mark Dead Sea Scrolls :  Dead Sea Scrolls These are photocopies of the Nag Hammadi and Dead Sea scrolls, … the earliest Christian records. Troublingly, they do not match up with the gospels in the Bible.” (page 245) The Dead Sea Scrolls were Jewish and predated Christianity The copies found at Nag Hammadi were dated 250 – 350 and were written 150 – 200 AD – long after the New Testament was completed. No ancient church leader ever argued that texts found at Nag Hammadi should be considered Scripture Constatine :  Constatine “… [Constantine] was a lifelong pagan who was baptized on his deathbed, too weak to protest” (pg. 232) Constantine was converted Oct 28, 312 after his vision of the cross the night before his decisive battle to gain control of Roman Empire Council of Nicea, 325 – 13 years after his conversion Baptism and Death, 337 – 25 years after conversion. Constantine did wait until shortly before his death to be baptized because he feared that if he sinned after his baptism, he would be condemned to hell. Thus, he waited until late in life to be baptized. Nicea :  Nicea “Jesus’ establishment as the ‘Son of God’ was officially proposed and voted on by the Council of Nicea … a relatively close vote at that” (pg. 233) Jesus as God before Nicea:  Jesus as God before Nicea New Testament well established before the end of the 1st century New Testament talks about His deity before this time: Matthew 1:23, 28:18-20 Mark 2:5-7 and Isaiah 43:25 Luke 5:21, 22:70 John 1:1, 5:23, 17:5, 20:28 Philippians 2 Colossians 1:15, 2:9 Titus 2:13 Hebrews 1:8 Jude 25 Revelation 1:17-18 and Isaiah 41:4 Jesus as God before Nicea:  Jesus as God before Nicea Quotes from early church father’s (non-biblical texts) all well before this meeting stating the belief in the deity in Christ: Justin Martyr (100-165 AD): "...the Father of the universe has a Son; who being the logos and First-begotten is also God" (First Apology 63:15). Irenaeus (130-200 AD): (referencing Jesus) "...in order that to Christ Jesus, our Lord, and God, and Savior, and King, according to the will of the invisible Father, . . ." (Against Heresies I, x, 1) Jesus as God before Nicea:  Jesus as God before Nicea Clement of Alexandria (150-215 AD) "Both as God and as man, the Lord renders us every kind of help and service. As God He forgives sin, as man He educates us to avoid sin completely" (Christ the Educator, chapter 3.1). In addition, "Our educator, O children, resembles His Father, God, whose son He is. He is without sin, without blame, without passion of soul, God immaculate in form of man accomplishing His Father's will" (Christ the Educator Chapter 2:4). Hippolytus (170-236 AD) "And the blessed John in the testimony of his gospel, gives us an account of this economy and acknowledges this word as God, when he says, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.' If then the Word was with God and was also God, what follows? Would one say that he speaks of two Gods? I shall not indeed speak of two Gods, but of one; of two persons however, and of a third economy, the grace of the Holy Ghost" (Against the Heresy of One Noetus. 14). DVC Pedestal:  DVC Pedestal The Sacred Feminine (new religion) Platform: Da Vinci (expert witness) First Leg: Story – (Source Code) Second Leg: The Conspiracy Third Leg: Marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene The Real Conspiracy :  The Real Conspiracy “Constantine commissioned and financed a new Bible, which omitted those gospels that spoke of Christ’s human traits and embellished those gospels that made Him godlike. The earlier gospels were outlawed, gathered up and burned.” (page 234) Third Leg: The Marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene:  Third Leg: The Marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene “The Gospel of Phillip is a good place to start … ‘and the companion of the Savior is Mary Magdalene.’ … As any Aramaic scholar will tell you, the word companion, in those days, literally meant spouse.” (p 246)
