Slide1:  Use your mouse to click the directional buttons. Slide2:  Ethanol is created by fermenting feed corn or other plant material. The most common method used is called the “Dry Method.” This process grinds corn into meal and ferments it – converting the starch to clean-burning ethanol. Slide3:  In Ethanol Production, a single bushel of corn can potentially yield: 2 pounds of corn oil 2.7 Gallons of Ethanol 15-18 pounds of livestock feed 16 pounds of Carbon Dioxide for refrigeration and beverages Slide4:  The Ethanol Process Slide5:  …then sent to the slurry tank to soak. At this stage, yeast is added to begin fermentation. Truckloads of Feed Corn are brought to the plant. The corn is ground to meal in the hammer mill… The mixture is heated in a jet cooker. …then sent to the liquefaction tank. From the heat exchanger, the product is piped into the Fermentation Tank. YEAST From Farm to Fermentation Slide6:  Stage 1: Filtration Opportunities Increased capacity for fermentation tanks Cyclones and Evaporator become obsolete By placing filtration here, significant operational improvements can include: Slide7:  Once the tanks are flushed, bacteria-killing chemicals are sprayed on the interior of the tanks. Filter Option C This Side Stream continuously filters the chemicals, greatly increasing their life expectancy. Filter Option A The flushed water passes through a filter for cleaning & recycling. Filter Option A Depending on your system, another filter may be required at the Caustic Tank. The chemicals are flushed out of the Tanks. To clean the Fermentation Tanks, rinse water flushes out any debris. FILTER OPTION B Placing a filter here eliminates this scenario and greatly improves chemical life. FILTER OPTION B Bio-solids entering the caustic tank, absorb the chemicals and weaken their ability to kill bacteria. The Clean In Place (CIP) Loop Fermentation Tank The fermented liquid is sent to the Distillation System where the ethanol is separated from the by-products. Filter Option C Place one filtration point on a Caustic Side Stream. Filtration Opportunities for Improving Caustic Retention Slide8:  Return to Beginning View All in Sequence Review Process From Farm to Fermentation From Farm to Fermentation Stage 2: Filtration Opportunities The Clean In Place (CIP) Loop Stage 2: Filtration Opportunities The Clean In Place (CIP) Loop View All in Sequence Return to Beginning Slide9:  …then sent to the slurry tank to soak.
