For some it is the people that they live with. There may or may not be a blood link. For others it includes those people who live a long way away. Cousins; aunties and uncles and even god parents etc. And the rest?: And the rest? For others the idea of a family also includes ancestors who have long been dead. A family tree sets out the history of a family and enables a person to see all the different families that he or she belongs to. I have traced my family trees back to the C18 & C19 on many lines. Don’t ask me any questions – I will go on for ever!!! Household Is This Term the Same As Family?: Household Is This Term the Same As Family? NO A household could be a complete mixture of people who are not related to each other. E.g. students or a house share. Types of Family – The Nuclear: Types of Family – The Nuclear Also thought by some as the ‘normal’ or typical family Consists of man and woman and 2 / 3 children In the past it would have been assumed that they were married Types of Family - Extended: Types of Family - Extended This is simply the nuclear family with others added to it. For example grandparents – this is vertical extension Other relatives mean that it horizontally extended Type of Family - Reconstituted: Type of Family - Reconstituted This happens when two families come together to form one family It frequently occurs when two people who have been divorced merge their families Type of Family – Lone Parent: Type of Family – Lone Parent Usually caused by divorce or separation The death of a parent was the more frequent cause of lone parenting in the past Type of Family – Empty nest: Type of Family – Empty nest The nuclear family is now just mum and dad The children have flown the nest All that are left are memories!!! And a long wait for grandchildren!!!!!!
