STAGES OF ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS: STAGES OF ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS DONE BY, F.FARHEEN NIKHAT…. STAGES IN ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS: STAGES IN ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS The ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS usually undergoes three[3] stages; Those are 1. FREEZING OR HIGH IRRITABLE STAGE 2. FROZEN OR MODERATE IRRITABLE STAGE 3. THAWING OR LOW IRRITABLE STAGE PowerPoint Presentation: The freezing phase begins when a patient initially notices aching pain, which often begins at night and persists during the day even at rest. This phase may last up to 3 months Characters of this phase includes: 1.Sleep disturbance 2.Early loss of external rotation motion with an intact rotator cuff is a hallmark sign of adhesive capsulitis and may be seen in this stage. Severe generalised pain associated with stiffness will be present in this stage. 1.FREEZING OR HIGH IRRITABLE PHASE SYMPTOMS: : SYMPTOMS: Stiffness in the shoulder joint Pain with any shoulder movement will be worse at night Pain occurs before end ranges of active and passive movements Limited ROM- active range will be less than passive due to pain. 2.FROZEN OR MODERATE IRRITABLE PHASE: 2.FROZEN OR MODERATE IRRITABLE PHASE FROZEN stage , presents with a gradual loss of motion in all directions due to pain It lasts from 3 to 9 months Pain subsides and is usually less than in the initial freezing phase but the shoulder is stiff. Movement can become more limited. External rotation is usually very limited. SYMPTOMS:: SYMPTOMS: Intermittent night pain Pain occurs at end ranges of active or passive movements Active range will be similar to passive ROM. 3.THAWING OR LOW IRRITABLE PHASE: 3.THAWING OR LOW IRRITABLE PHASE “Thawing ” stage, is characterized by pain that begins to resolve, but significant stiffness persists from 15 to 24 months after onsets of symptoms. This stage often progresses to pain resolution and there will be slow gain in motion. T he patient’s symptoms usually resolve, but often motion restrictions persist. The shoulder becomes less stiff. There is an gradual increase in the range of movement . SYMPTOMS:: SYMPTOMS: No pain during night or rest Pain occurs only with overpressures into end ranges of passive movements Active range will be same as passive. THANK YOU….: THANK YOU….
