Communication is the process of sharing our ideas, thoughts, feelings and values with other people and having those ideas, thoughts, feelings and values understood by the people we are communicating with. Formal Communication : Formal Communication Formal communication is written, oral or graphic communication which follows the lines of authority and accountability. Formal communication channels flow in three directions:: Formal communication channels flow in three directions: Downward Communication Upward Communication Horizontal Communication Downward Communication : Downward Communication Downward communication involves, flow of communication from higher level to the lower levels. Upward Communication: Upward Communication Upward Communication flows from lower levels to the higher levels of the organization. Horizontal Communication : Horizontal Communication Horizontal Communication is information exchange between departments as means of coordinating their activities. It occurs across the same level. Advantages of Informal Communication : Advantages of Informal Communication It acts as a valuable purpose in expressing certain information. It satisfies the people desires to identify what is happening in the organization. It also facilitates to ameliorate managerial decisions. Differences: Differences Formal Used in a Professional Setting. No Slang. Pronounce words correctly. Informal Usually used with friends and family. Contains shortened version of words.
