Sokrates The British Royal Family:  The British Royal Family Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom:  Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom Elizabeth was born at 21 Bruton Street in Mayfair, London on April 21, 1926. Her father was HRH The Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI), the second eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary. Her mother was HRH The Duchess of York (née Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon), the daughter of Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and his wife, the Countess of Strathmore. She was named after her mother, while her two middle names are those of her paternal great-grandmother Queen Alexandra and grandmother Queen Mary respectively. As a granddaughter of the British sovereign in the male line, she held the title of a British princess with the style Her Royal Highness. Her full style was HRH Princess Elizabeth of York. At the time of her birth, she was third in the line of succession to the crown, behind her father and her uncle, the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII). Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh:  Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (Philip Mountbatten, formerly Prince Philippos of Greece and Denmark), styled HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (born June 10, 1921), is the consort of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Originally a Greek citizen, holding the titles of prince of Greece and Denmark, he renounced these titles and his citizenship to marry Elizabeth. It is uncertain what his birth surname was, but he is a member of the Danish royal house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg. He now holds the titles of Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich. Philip was also created a British prince and holds the style His Royal Highness. The Duke of Edinburgh is also the patron of many organisations including the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the WWF. He has acquired a reputation in Britain for sometimes making remarks on public visits that seem undiplomatic or inappropriate. Charles, Prince of Wales:  Charles, Prince of Wales He was born on 14 November 1948 at Buckingham Palace to HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, the elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. From birth, he was known as His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Edinburgh. In 1952, his mother assumed the throne, becoming Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Charles immediately became Duke of Cornwall under a charter of King Edward III, which gave that title to the Sovereign's eldest son, and was then referred to as HRH The Duke of Cornwall. He also became, in the Scottish Peerage, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick and Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland. The Prince of Wales is normally referred to as His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, except in Scotland wheren he is styled His Royal Highness The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay. Diana, Princess of Wales :  Diana, Princess of Wales Diana, Princess of Wales (Diana Frances Mountbatten-Windsor, née Spencer) (1 July 1961 - 31 August 1997), was the first wife of HRH The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. From the time of her engagement to the Prince of Wales in 1981 until her death in a car accident in 1997, Diana was arguably the most famous woman in the world, the preeminent female celebrity of her generation: a fashion icon, an ideal of feminine beauty, admired and emulated for her high-profile involvement in AIDS issues and the international campaign against landmines. To her admirers, Diana, Princess of Wales was a role model -- after her death, there were calls for her to be nominated for sainthood -- while her detractors saw her life as a cautionary tale. Prince William of Wales:  Prince William of Wales His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales (William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor) (born June 21, 1982) is a member of the British Royal Family, grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and first son of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. Prince William is second in the line of succession to the British throne, after his father and before his brother, Prince Harry. Prince William is expected to ascend the throne of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth Realms. Prince Harry of Wales :  Prince Harry of Wales His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales (Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor) (born September 15, 1984), nicknamed Prince Harry, is a member of the British Royal Family, a grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. Harry is third in the line of succession to the British throne (behind his father, the Prince of Wales, and his elder brother, Prince William), and is generally regarded as a carefree, fun-loving, and rebellious member of the Royal Family. The Prince is also becoming well known as a magnet for controversy and gaffe-plagued actions. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall :  Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall Born Camilla Shand, and formerly the wife of Andrew Parker Bowles, she married the Prince of Wales on Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the Guildhall in Windsor, Berkshire. Clarence House has stated that, when Charles accedes the throne, it is "intended" that the Duchess of Cornwall should use the title HRH The Princess Consort. As the law stands, however, she would become Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, whatever her titular preferences. Anne, Princess Royal :  Anne, Princess Royal Her Royal Highness The Princess Anne, Princess Royal (Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise Laurence, formerly Mountbatten-Windsor), styled HRH The Princess Royal (born August 15, 1950), is a member of the British Royal Family. She is the seventh holder of the title Princess Royal. She has been a princess with the style of Her Royal Highness since her birth and is currently ninth in the line of succession to the British throne. The Princess Royal is most famous for her charitable work. She is the only member of the British Royal Family to have competed in the Olympic Games. Prince Andrew, Duke of York:  Prince Andrew, Duke of York The Duke of York is most famous for his high profile marriage to and subsequent divorce from Sarah Ferguson. He also served in the Royal Navy, seeing action in the Falklands War aboard HMS Invincible. He currently serves as United Kingdom's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex :  Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex (Edward Antony Richard Louis Mountbatten-Windsor), styled HRH The Earl of Wessex (born March 10, 1964), is a member of the British Royal Family, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II. He has held the title of Earl of Wessex since 1999. The Earl of Wessex is currently seventh in the line of succession. The Earl of Wessex is mostly famous for his television production and presenting career, and his brief service with the Royal Marines.
