International Voices for Children InstituteLetting children and youth be a voice for a better world : International Voices for Children InstituteLetting children and youth be a voice for a better world World Children’s Choir Jordan River Foundation SOS Children’s Village of JordanThe National Center for Culture and Arts Amman, Jordan July 28 – August 3, 2010 Tomorrow’s Youth Organization Zafer Masri Foundation An Najah University Nablus, Palestine August 4 – 10, 2010 The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 : The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 Build capacity using visual and performing arts for self-expression and communication The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 : The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 Promote the healthy development of children and youth living in underserved communities The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 : The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 Foster international understanding and friendship through music, cultural sharing and community service The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 : The International Voices for Children Institute - 2010 Engage the global community to improve the lives of children in need Project Summary : Project Summary International Voices for Children Institute will inspire music, dance/movement, theater, and cultural sharing and exchange among students, parents, teachers and community members Where: Amman, Jordan and Nablus, Palestine When: July – August 2010 Program: 2 day teacher training; 5 day children / teens/parent workshops in each city Who: At-risk children and youth, parents and teachers End State : End State Teachers have skills and tools to foster creative expression Children and teens impacted by poverty, violence and conflict develop their ‘voices’ through creative expression Deep personal connections develop amongst Jordanians, Palestinians, Iraqi and Palestinian refugees, and Americans Participants are active change makers and have a positive impact on their communities New jobs are created for youth in Nablus and Amman Workshops : Workshops Visioning Collage and Voices for Children Community Service Utilizing outside-the-box thinking to help overcome difficult life experiences Creating projects to build bridges and promote reconciliation and friendship in their homes, communities, and countries. :  Workshops Culture, Faith Sharing and Exchange Sharing stories about life, arts and culture in our respective countries Sharing Celtic “Sacred Hospitality” “Living Simply that Others May Simply Live” Program Exploring Iona Community (Scotland), an Ecumenical and Inter-Faith Community Workshops : Workshops Singing Singing classes for teachers, parents, children (ages 4 - 7) Family Chorus for teachers, parents, counselors, children, teens (ages 8 - 18) Chamber Ensemble for experienced students (ages 10 - 18) Workshops : Workshops African Dance and Drumming Introduction to Western African Culture – an engaging and educational experience African Drumming - drumming techniques, rhythmic patterns of the djembe drum Artsplay and Baby Artsplay classes for children - early childhood performing arts supporting social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development Workshops : Workshops Dance and Theater Workshops   International dance, exercise and movement workshops Hip hop and rap classes leading to a performance Theater building and awareness through movement   Traditional theater: acting, improvisation and mime Teacher Training : Teacher Training Everyone Can Learn to Sing Seminar for Parents and Teachers Vocal warm-ups, breathing and ear training exercises, vocal training technique Leading to development of a beautiful solo quality singing voice Early Childhood Teacher Training Training in performing arts enrichment for classroom curriculum Mathematical concepts, reading and language development reinforced African Drumming: The Djembe Basic and intermediate techniques, rhythmic patterns of the djembe drum and African phrases Partners : Partners World Children’s ChoirWashington, DC : World Children’s ChoirWashington, DC The World Children’s Choir serves as a voice for children worldwide – giving voice to the interests of all children, celebrating cultural diversity through music, promoting positive international relations, and asking people to work together to create a peaceful, healthy world for children. Jordan River Foundation : Jordan River Foundation The Jordan River Foundation, a non-profit Jordanian NGO established in 1995 and chaired by Her Majesty Queen RaniaAl-Abdullah. The two main areas of concentration are protecting the rights and needs of children through the JR Children Program and empowering individuals and communities through the Community Empowerment Program SOS Children’s Village Association of Jordan : SOS Children’s Village Association of Jordan SOS Children’s Village Association of Jordan is a local, private, non-political, non-governmental, and independent social development organization. It was established in 1983, and cares for 296 Jordanian orphaned and abandoned children in its three Villages and eight Youth Houses in Aman, Irbid, and Aqaba.
