First Day of School: First Day of School 2014-2015 School Year Joseph Hester, teacher English 1 Course Description: English 1 Course D escription A core language course that focuses on literature and grammar & writing. 1 unit credit 2 semesters-full year required Partial credit is not given My Educational Philosophy: My Educational Philosophy With guidance, support, structure, and motivation all students can become productive citizens; therefore, I lead by example, and I hold my students to a high standard. Attendance Policy: Attendance Policy Come prepared and ready to learn!! Remember: You get out of it what you put into it!! 3 unexcused absences Additional absences must be accompanied by an official excuse. Refer to student handbook. PowerPoint Presentation: Missed Assignments Missed Assignments will be in the assignment folder by dates (located on the front table). It is the responsibility of absent students to check f older upon return. Grading: Grading Tests and Assignments All tests and assignments are graded on a traditional 100 point scale. Projects All projects will be graded using a rubric. Additional information will be provided when project is assigned. Homework: Homework Continuously work in class towards the completion of all independent assignments. If the assignment is not completed in class, it becomes homework. Tardy Policy : Tardy Policy Students must be in their seats when tardy bell rings. 1 st Tardy-written assignment 2 nd Tardy-morning detention 3 rd Tardy-administrative after-school detention Dress Code: Dress Code Adhere to district dress code policy-refer to handbook. Students cannot enter class with sagging pants or revealing attire. Tutoring & Detention: Tutoring & Detention Tutoring Monday-Thursday 7:15 a.m.- 8:15 a.m. Morning Detention Fridays 7:15 a.m.-8:15 a.m. After-school detention is at the discretion of administration. Class Rules and Consequences: Class Rules and Consequences Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Raise hands and get permission. Take ownership of your actions. Follow all school and district policies.
