They like those leaves the best. Koalas are herbivores, because they only eat plants, like leaves. The koala lives in eucalyptus trees so it finds all of it’s food in it’s home. Behaviors:  Behaviors Mother koalas protect their young so the babies won’t get hurt by the predators. Their biggest predator is people. Owls and lizards attack young koalas. Another predator is the dingo. The koala is a nocturnal animal, because it sleeps in the day. Physical Features :  Physical Features The koala has a round faces with small brown eyes. They have round, big, black noses with furry ears. They have small mouths with sharp teeth. The have brownish-gray fur and five sharply clawed toes. The koala has a thick coat of fur because it can get pretty cold and windy up in the trees. The single cub is about 3 to 4 inches long at birth. The adult koala body is 2-2 and a half feet long. The adult koala weighs 15 to 30 pounds. Quiz:  Quiz Is the koala a herbivore, a carnivore or a omnivore? How long is the single Koala at birth? What two animals attack young? Interesting Facts:  Interesting Facts The koalas eat their food at night time. A koala will never drink again after it leaves it’ mother’s pouch. It gets all the liquid it needs from their leaves. There are more than 600 kinds of eucalyptus leaves, but koalas only eat about 20 kinds of them. Koalas eat over about one pound of leaves each day. Before a koala eats a leave, they carefully check it and smell it. Koalas speak to each other with grunts and soft clicking, squeaking and humming sounds. While a koala isn’t eating, its probably sleeping. Koalas don’t get down from trees very often, so they won’t get hurt by other animals. Koalas live up to twelve years. Koalas may look like bears, but they really aren’t.. They are part of the marsupial family. The koala does not have a tail. The koala is warm-blooded. Male koalas have a special area on their chest that leaves a scent. They rub their chest on their “home tree” to leave the scent and mark their tree as their own. Each of a koalas hand has two thumbs.
