I learnt to read when I was 4. I went to preschool and primary school. My parents were my main literacy sponsors. I watched sesame street every day. Early Childhood: Early Childhood I began to write. My literacy sponsors: my parents, my public school teachers, my Saturday day school teachers, my friends, my religious community, my instructors. I joined Brownies and went to weekly meetings I joined summer reading clubs every year. I experimented with the literacies of swimming, gymnastics and skating. Middle Years: Middle Years I made lots of friends at public school and Saturday school. I read the Babysitters Club series I became a babysitter My literacy sponsors: my parents, my public school teachers, my Saturday day school teachers, my friends, my religious community, my instructors. I listened to Z95.3 and KUBE 93.3 Radio Stations. High School Years: High School Years My literacy sponsors: my parents, my public school teachers, my Saturday day school teachers, my friends, my religious community, my supervisor/boss. I continued Guiding and went into Pathfinders. I joined Duke of Edinburgh and learnt more about outdoor activities. I continued to go to Saturday School. Towards the end of high school I got my first job. Young Adult: Young Adult I got my first job at a Research Company in Coquitlam. I started college. I was forced to think about what my academic interests were when doing course selection. I experienced my first death and the ceremonies and emotions associated with that. I also started to learn the literacy associated with the hospital and Dialysis since my dad had Poly- sistic Kidneys. ADULT: ADULT I got another job for a wireless cellular service provider in their call centre. I also decided to start volunteering in schools I got promoted to work as a manager at my other job. I decided to enrol in the Liberal Arts program at Capilano University where I had the opportunity to complete a Graduating Project on the topic of my choice. I applied for PDP at SFU. First at Capilano University and then at Simon Fraser University. Success in this literacy has granted me other opportunities such as going to China and being in Quebec currently. It also enables me to have the qualifications required to become a teacher. Powerful Literacies: Powerful Literacies A powerful literacy in my life comes from my employment with a large company in Canada, Rogers Communications, for their Fido brand. I am taught about new technologies in the wireless industry and how to give technical support. I feel this is a very powerful literacy to have as mobile devices have become so important in our day to day life in the Western world.
