Forsyth Central High School: Data overview Mary beth jager Itec 7305 Summer 2014 Forsyth Central High School Outline: Outline The main purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the changing student population at Forsyth Central High School. The following information will be reviewed: Current and past student demographics Student performance on mandated tests including and EOCT’s Student performance on national tests including SAT and ACT Current strengths and weaknesses in student performance will be identified as well as suggestions to improve student achievement. Student Demographics: Student Demographics The following slides will illustrate student demographics data including: Student Enrollment Student Race/Ethnicity Students in other Subgroups Demographics – Student Enrollment: Demographics – Student Enrollment *Overall enrollment has increased over the past 3 years. Demographics – Student Ethnicity: Demographics – Student Ethnicity *There is a trend of increased diversity among students over the past 3 years. Demographics – Other Subgroups: Demographics – Other Subgroups *There is a trend of increasing students in other subgroups over the past 3 years. Summary of Demographic Trends: Summary of Demographic Trends Overall student enrollment has increased over the past 3 years. There has been an increase in Black and Hispanic student enrollment over the past 3 years. There is an increasing number of student enrollment in other subgroups over the past 3 years (mainly in the Free/Reduced Meals subgroup). Student State Mandated Testing Overview: Student State Mandated Testing Overview The state mandated testing data will include: Georgia High School Writing Test (GHSWT) End of Course Tests (EOCT) State Mandated GHSWT: State Mandated GHSWT *Overall student performance has improved over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – 9th Grade Literature and Composition: State Mandated EOCT – 9 th Grade Literature and Composition *Overall student performance has improved over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – American Literature and Composition: State Mandated EOCT – American Literature and Composition *Overall student performance has improved over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – Biology: State Mandated EOCT – Biology *Overall student performance has improved over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – Economics: State Mandated EOCT – Economics *Overall student performance has declined over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – Mathematics 1: State Mandated EOCT – Mathematics 1 *Overall student performance has declined over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – Mathematics 2: State Mandated EOCT – Mathematics 2 *Overall student performance has increased over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – Physical Science: State Mandated EOCT – Physical Science *Overall student performance has increased over the past 3 years. State Mandated EOCT – US History: State Mandated EOCT – US History *Overall student performance has increased over the past 3 years. Overall State Testing Trends: Overall State Testing Trends The scores on the GHSWT increased over the past 3 years. EOCT scores improved over the past 3 years in all subject areas tested except for Economics and Mathematics 1. Student National Testing Overview: Student National Testing Overview The National Testing Data will include: American College Test (ACT) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) *These tests are optional for high school students to take, not mandatory. National Test - ACT: National Test - ACT *FCHS students scored higher than the national and state level but lower than the district average. National Test - SAT: National Test - SAT *FCHS students scored higher than the national and state level but lower than the district average. Overall National Testing Trends: Overall National Testing Trends Forsyth Central students consistently scored higher than the national and state average on both the ACT and SAT. Forsyth Central students consistently scored lower than the district average on both the ACT and SAT. Conclusion: Conclusion Based on the data observed, the following can be inferred: Students of all subgroups struggling with the Economics and Mathematics 1 EOCT. It is important that we examine what we can do to assist students in improving in these areas. As the population of Forsyth Central continues to grow more and more diverse, we must use the data available to assist these subgroups in reaching their highest level of achievement possible. Although Forsyth Central students continually score higher than the national and state averages on the national tests, there is always room for improvement. What strategies can be implemented in our classrooms and as a school in general? How the achievement gap between subgroups be narrowed?
