Case Study: Imperial College London (UK) and University of Stavanger (Norway):  Case Study: Imperial College London (UK) and University of Stavanger (Norway) June / July 2006 First ENAS Professional Exchange Programme 2 Fitness Instructors from each institution Exchange period of 2 weeks Case Study continued:  Imperial hosts Stavanger’s Sports Centre Manager and two fitness instructors at Ethos, sports centre at Imperial’s main campus in South Kensington, whilst two Sport Imperial fitness instructors are placed in the University of Stavanger’s sports centre Accommodation in university residences Shadowing colleagues and carrying out fitness orientations, personal programmes and taking classes Customer contact Plenty of time for sightseeing and socialising as well as attending sports events Case Study continued Accommodation:  Accommodation Left: Evelyn Gardens, Imperial College accommodation Right: accommodation at University of Stavanger, Norway University halls of residence of a good standard Walking distance of sports centres Facilities: Imperial College London:  Facilities: Imperial College London Ethos – sports centre at main campus in South Kensington 75-station fitness gym Exercise studio 25m swimming pool Five-badminton court sports hall 9m climbing wall Three squash courts Massage capsule Sports injury treatments Facilities: University of Stavanger:  Facilities: University of Stavanger Sports centre Total of 5000m² 3 group fitness rooms (500m²) Spinning room (100m²) Gym (600m²) with 90 stations and 3 fully equipped free weight stations Sports Hall (international size) Climbing Wall (14m high, 21m wide) and bouldering room 2 squash courts 60 group fitness classes a week Solarium Physiotherapist Experiences:  Experiences Holly Plumley, Imperial College London: “The programme was a great experience. It was interesting to learn how our Norwegian colleagues put their fitness training into practice. We experienced typical working days at Stavanger and also got to see the sights.” Cristoffer Thun, University of Stavanger: “Very nice to be at a different centre in a different country, a little too much spare time though. In Norway, we tend to teach more group fitness so it was interesting to see a different approach. The accommodation could have been improved but on the whole it was very nice to meet with other colleagues in the business.” The Model:  The Model 2 week or 10 day period Overlap days at the beginning and end (optional) 6-8 working days only Free time for cultural exchange/sport/social Accommodation (half board) paid for by the host Wages paid by the employer as usual Travel paid by the employer Expenses paid for by the individual! Fully organised timetable including airport meet/greet (where relevant) and social activities Combine with a visit to a sporting event Plan for 2007/08:  Plan for 2007/08 Potential candidates should put together a CV with details of their experience, the kind of placement they are looking for and the most appropriate time in the year for them to be placed in the exchange programme ENAS/UCS will be looking for candidates who are skilled, can easily adapt to different methods of working, who are willing to contribute and who enjoy socialising with different people ENAS will provide notice board opportunities and promotion through newsletter to enable: matching of skill sets matching of experiences arrangements to be made for the exchange ENAS :  ENAS ENAS is the European Network of Academic Sports Services.
