Slide1: OET Listening Sub-Test by : OET MATERIAL OET Introduction: OET Introduction OET is a test that assesses all the four English language skills – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. OET is designed to assess the level of English of health care professionals such as Dentists, Dieticians, Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Podiatrists, Optometrists and many others. Slide3: Preparing for Listening Sub-Test Of all sub-tests, Listening Sub-Test is often a difficult test for most health care professionals. OET Listening sub-test consists of two parts : Listening Sub-Test Part A Listening Sub-Test Part B Slide4: About the Listening sub-test The questions are aimed at generic healthcare interest, accessible to candidates across all professions. Each part consists of about 15 minutes of recorded speech. Part A – Consultation (20-25 minutes) Part B – Presentation (20-25 minutes) Slide5: Part A – Consultation In this part of the test, you will hear a general practitioner talking. Only once you can here the consultation As you listen, you must make notes about the consultation under the headings given on the answer paper. There will also be two minutes at the end of the test for you to check your answers. Slide6: Part B – Presentation In this part of the test, you will hear a short recorded talk or lecture (monologue) by a healthcare professional on a health-related topic. You will hear the talk ONCE ONLY, in sections. You may write as you listen, and there will be pauses during the talk for you to complete your answers, and to read the question. Slide7: Listening Tips Be cool and get yourself ready to listen the audio carefully. Be focused and don’t lose your concentration. Read the questions ahead carefully and predict the possible answers and be keen to grasp while the audio is playing. Note down the important points write as much as you can Don't copy word to word what you hear Use short-hand, don't write lenghty sentences Aim for a clear, concise, condensed & detailed presentation of information.
