Slide 2: Phase rule is used to study heterogeneous equilibria PHASE It is physically distinct and mechanically separable part of a system which is homogeneous throughout and is separated from other homogeneous part of the system by means of a definite boundary. Slide 3: COMPONENT It is the minimum no. of independent variable constituents by means of which the composition of any phase of the system can be expressed either directly or in the form of a chemical equation. Slide 4: DEGREE OF FREEDOM Smallest no. of independent variables such as pressure, Temp and conc. That must be specified in order to describe completely the state of system.
