Visiting Teachers Selection Process Visiting Teachers Hiring Process:  The selected Spanish teachers sign contracts with their school districts. At the present time there are over 1,200 visiting teachers from Spain in 31 states of the U.S. & Alberta, Canada (07/08) Ratios: ca. 2000 – 500 – 4.1 . Assistants work up to 20/14 hours per week and receive teacher training. Language and Culture Assistants Language and Culture Assistants:  WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Primary, secondary schools and CERs in the United States and Canada / Primary, secondary and language schools in Spain (12 regions). The Ministry of Education and Science of Spain Funds the assistant’s scholarship and the medical benefits. Provides local supervision. The US/CA school/college provides lodging and transportation.
