Degree in Physical Education Concentrations: Clinical Exercise Physiology Fitness Management Sport Communication Teaching and Coaching CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:  CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Prepares Students for Careers in Exercise Physiology and Allied Health Sciences Exercise Specialists in Clinical Fitness and Health Facilities, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Prepares Students for Professional School Programs in Allied Health Sciences Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, Physician’s Assistant, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:  CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Program Successes, 2004 – 2005 26 graduates accepted in professionals schools and programs in the Allied Health Sciences Physical Therapy – 14 students Occupational Therapy – 3 students Nursing – 3 students Chiropractic – 2 students Respiratory Therapy – 1 student Physical Therapy Assistant – 2 students Dental Hygiene – 1 student CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:  CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Program Successes, 2005 – 2006 35 graduates accepted in professionals schools and programs in the Allied Health Sciences Physical Therapy – 24 students Occupational Therapy – 4 students Nursing – 2 students Chiropractic – 4 students Athletic Training - 1 student CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:  CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Program Successes Since 2001: 101 graduates accepted in professionals schools and programs in the Allied Health Sciences, including Physical Therapy – 69 students Nursing – 9 students Occupational Therapy – 8 students Dental Hygiene – 2 students Physician’s Assistant – 1 student Respiratory Therapy – 2 students Chiropractic – 7 students Athletic Training – 2 students CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:  CLINICAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY Program Successes 92% of students applying for Schools of Physical Therapy have been accepted. University of Mississippi Medical Center, Duke University, University of Southern California, Washington University (St. Louis), University of Tennessee – Memphis, St. Augustine (Florida), Belmont College (Tennessee), Concordia College (Wisconsin), Arcadia University (Philadelphia, PA), Grand Valley State (Michigan) FITNESS MANAGEMENT:  FITNESS MANAGEMENT Prepares Students for Careers as Exercise Specialists, Personal Trainers, and Managers in Fitness and Wellness Facilities. Prepares Students for Careers as Strength and Conditioning Specialists Private Schools, Community Colleges, Colleges and Universities, Professional Sports Teams (Minor and Major Leagues). TEACHING AND COACHING:  TEACHING AND COACHING Prepares Students for Teaching and Coaching Positions in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools Accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) TEACHING AND COACHING:  TEACHING AND COACHING Program graduates are making important contributions to the scholastic and athletic achievements of our children Glen Young, played football for the Bulldogs while earning his degree in teaching and coaching. After playing professionally with the Cleveland Browns, he returned to Mississippi State as an Instructor in the Department of Kinesiology Johnie Cooks is a graduate of the program, who played in the Super Bowl with the New York Giants TEACHING AND COACHING:  TEACHING AND COACHING Program graduates are making important contributions to the scholastic and athletic achievements of our children Mike Justice has been an all-star coach several times while coaching at various Mississippi public schools Junior Graham coaches at Weir Attendance Center, which won the division 1A state football championship in 2003 Wert Spiva coaches football, basketball and track at Coldwater High School in North Mississippi SPORT COMMUNICATION:  SPORT COMMUNICATION Prepares Students for Careers in the Sport Communication and Sport Business Industry Emphasis on Developing Leaders in Broadcasting, Journalism and Public Relations in the Field of Sports Media SPORT COMMUNICATION:  SPORT COMMUNICATION Potential Careers in Sport Management Sports Marketing, Sales, Licensing, Corporate Hospitality and Promotions Facility and Event Management Fundraising and Development Prepares Students for Various Aspects of the Sports Business Industry College Sports Professional Sports Non-traditional Sports (PGA Tour, X-Games, Poker etc.) SPORT COMMUNICATION:  SPORT COMMUNICATION Students must complete an internship as part of their curriculum Past internship sites include: MSU Athletic Department WCBI Television Magnolia Motor Speedway Birmingham Barons Pearl Braves SPORT COMMUNICATION:  SPORT COMMUNICATION Students have the opportunity to join S.P.O.R.T.S., a student organization for aspiring professionals in sports management: Benefits include first notice of job/internship opportunities plus career and graduate school advice Educational field trips Expert guest speakers from the sports business industry Access to nationally respected conferences MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY:  MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY Department of Kinesiology www.kinesiology.msstate.edu
