At 100 kmph along existing roads & aesthetically, without demanding road space! Better performance than underground metro at one-fourth cost & up and ready in two years Futuristic automated driver –less operations! By Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., B. Rajaram M.Tech., IRSE, FIE Managing Director “Technically sound..” Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Cities are getting choked:  Cities are getting choked Existing metro solutions are : financially unviable and further will add to long term misery Makes states & people poorer Old generation financially unviable metros re-packaged draining people’s wealth Today’s Scene Evolution of Sky Bus.. Result of 150 years of experience of railways!:  Evolution of Sky Bus.. Result of 150 years of experience of railways! The railway on bridge comfortable! Sky Bus has The same rail tracks. The same bridge The same driving bogies Only coach is now Suspended, better stability- positive Hold provided Noise is positively Entrapped Surface, elevated or underground metros-not safe enough :  Surface, elevated or underground metros-not safe enough Derailments/capsizing kill people Sky Bus no derailment & No capsizing- SAFEST in the world Slide6:  Aesthetic , Futuristic Eco-friendly Economic & Safest Sky Bus Metro Conventional railway provides for heavy steel coaches to protect people from derailments and capsizing. So carry more steel and dead weight instead of people. Sky Bus has no such problem;no derailment nor capsizing; hence uses very light weight coaches and carries more people using much less dead weight With total weight of 48T, a railway can carry only 70 persons in20m length Sky Bus with the same weight & length carries 300 persons comfortably So Sky Bus requires Only 50m long stations to service 900 persons every 40 sec. While existing metro system need 200m and 90 sec. Why Sky Bus saves 50% to 75% in costs! Slide7:  World Class research and technology published in all continents Sky Bus concept first presented by B. Rajaram in 1989 At Bologna University Italy US patents granted to the inventor B. Rajaram for Sky Bus: assigned to Konkan Railway Sky Bus is affordable & adds wealth!:  Sky Bus is affordable & adds wealth! Reduces cost of transport with quantum jump In quality of life Slide9:  At each station towers provide: 1. Shopping malls 2. Car parking- for commuters 3. Hotels- fitness centres 4.Office accommodation A life-style of city gets re-defined Sky Bus can eliminate heavy truck movements into city: old generation metros cannot do this! All commodities for city dwellers are delivered in containers All garbage removal in containers is also possible during off peak. Provides a total service of transport for the city- Intelligent and automatic. Slide10:  Sky Bus is MASS RAPID RAIL based system with flexibility of bus Max.speed 100 kmph Can deal 100,000 Passengers Per hour What a Railway can do, Sky Bus does BETTER! Service Every Minute! Slide11:  Skycon system helps in streamlining the movement of containers in the ports. Loading and unloading of containers in a ship is handled at 10 times faster rate than the best system available on date. It also enables intermodal integration between ports, railways and roadways efficiently. Skycon Improving port system working efficiency Slide12:  Sky Rail, a Konkan Railway innovation is a Broad Gauge double Railway line designed to negotiate mountainous terrain characterised by steep gradients upto 1:1 and sharp curves upto 20 metres in radius to safely, speedily transport passengers and freight to better performance characteristics as compared to conventional railways. It is similar to the Sky Bus Metro but differs in higher load carrying capacity and diesel electric haulage.   Each passenger STU consists of a double-decker coach suspended from two boggies while the freight STU is a steel cage. It is sturdy enough to carry army tanks and heavy cargo or provides Ro-Ro service. Sky Rail Alternative to railway in the mountains Rugged lifeline over mountains and valleys The foreign technology lobbies are threatened …:  The foreign technology lobbies are threatened … Sky Bus technology is fundamentally a modified, re-engineered railway only All known & proven technologies are assembled in a different manner, to evolve the Sky Bus The same railway tracks, bogies used except an improvement in safety is achieved But the agents of foreign lobbies keep on spreading that the Sky Bus is “un-proven”, “untested” technology while they are not able to prove which sub-assembly is based on unproven technology The full life-size Sky Bus structure and prototypes made by our own industry within 90 days disproved and put to shame the “experts” promoting old generation technology of underground and elevated metros! Existing financially unviable metro proponents threatened by Sky Bus technology of India!:  Existing financially unviable metro proponents threatened by Sky Bus technology of India! Independently Price water Coopers and ICRA too have confirmed 14 to 16% positive return for Sky Bus- the under ground and elevated metro proponents who look for loans and susidies sagely pronouncing that urban transport cannot sustain by itself are not happy! Slide15:  Bhatrat Ratna Dr Abdul Kalam now President of India,Had examined first on behalf of PMO, and declared The Sky Bus technology “SOUND” Padmabhushan Dr A. Kakodkar, Padmabhushan Prof. Ramarao, & Sri Sudhir Kumar Commissioner of Railway Safety Agree and state Sky Bus is SAFER than railway! Major technology companies like BEML, TATAs,BHEL,Bajaj and others all Over India, about 38 Companies and Design Consultants signed Expression of Confidence in the technical feasibility of Sky Bus Technology Prime Minister’s Office has directed that Sky Bus should be implemented on “Mission Mode” :  Prime Minister’s Office has directed that Sky Bus should be implemented on “Mission Mode” Comparative Costs for a 10 km route to carry 40,000 pass/hr: Underground Metro………………………Rs 2,500 cr Elevated Metro……………………………Rs 1200 cr Sky Bus Metro…………………………….Rs 500 cr World’s First Full scale commercial prototypes of Sky Bus units:  Sky Bus Metro technology launched by the Hon’ble Minister of Railways On the 15th Oct. 2003 At Margao, Goa World’s First Full scale commercial prototypes of Sky Bus units Slide18:  Muthailpet Guindy Panagal Park A network grid Of Sky Bus Metro covers 150 sq. km with almost point to point to air-condition service Max Speed 100 kmph In peak period Sky Bus Can be programmed for 60kmph average speed- so a distance of 12 km gets covered in 12 minutes! Slide19:  Test track 1.6 km in Goa READY TRIALS STARTED TUV Germany are associated For Safety certification. Slide20:  Covering 61 km at a total cost of Rs 2747 cr (excluding fin.cost) Chennai Sky Bus provides air-condition travel at 50ps per km average cost , touching each resident’s life! Operating surplus at 18% support external funding- making Urban transport a paying proposition instead of becoming a financial millstone ! Action to be taken…:  Action to be taken… Government in principle declare reservation of right of way over roads in the city for setting up Sky Bus metro Source of Funds State will commit to 10% of Project cost as equity Promoter brings in 90% of funds State will enact the Sky Bus Metro Act Konkan Railway Corporation , the Promoter DOXPORT Technolgies & State Of Tamilnadu will execute a MOU followed by agreement laying down the rights and obligations: by 30th March, 2004 By December 2005 a 10 km Sky Bus route can be commissioned as Phase I Sky Bus transforms Chennai within two years into a city of the new millennium! Sky Bus logistic support will attract more investors to the city! Sky Bus is a financially viable project! :  Sky Bus transforms Chennai within two years into a city of the new millennium! Sky Bus logistic support will attract more investors to the city! Sky Bus is a financially viable project! Dr APJ Abdul Kalam endorsed the Sky Bus as this century’s gift of India to the world- and Tamilnadu can make history making the Chennai the first Sky Bus city in the world!
