As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Mark 10:46-56 TNIV Slide11:  tvc Embrace Risk, Through Faith Don’t just trust only in yourself. Slide12:  tvc So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house. Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, "Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed." But Naaman went away angry and said, "I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? Couldn't I wash in them and be cleansed?" So he turned and went off in a rage. Slide13:  tvc Naaman's servants went to him and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'!" So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. 2 Kings 5:9-14 TNIV Slide14:  tvc "What have you done?" asked Samuel. Saul replied, "When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash, 12 I thought, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the LORD's favor.' So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering." "You have done a foolish thing," Samuel said. "You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the LORD's command. 1 Samuel 13:11-14 TNIV Slide15:  tvc Embrace Risk, Through Faith Don’t just trust only in yourself. Slide16:  tvc Embrace Risk, Through Faith Don’t just trust only in yourself. Receive Faith as a gift from God, and one that needs to grow. Slide17:  tvc So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?" "From childhood," he answered. "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us." "'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes." Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again." The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead." But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. Mark 9:20-27 Slide18:  tvc Embrace Risk, Through Faith Don’t just trust only in yourself. Receive Faith as a gift from God, and one that needs to grow. Slide19:  tvc Embrace Risk, Through Faith Don’t just trust only in yourself. Receive Faith as a gift from God, and one that needs to grow. Take action on whatever little faith we have now Slide20:  tvc Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said. Slide21:  tvc Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" Matthew 14:22-31 Slide22:  tvc Embrace Risk, Through Faith Don’t just trust only in yourself. Receive Faith as a gift from God, and one that needs to grow. Take action on whatever little faith we have now Slide23:  tvc 3 Prayers “God, is there more than this that I should expect? I want everything you have for me, so teach me to raise the bar of my faith, to increase how much I expect to see you at work every day.” Slide24:  tvc 3 Prayers “God, is there more than this that I should expect? I want everything you have for me, so teach me to raise the bar of my faith, to increase how much I expect to see you at work every day.” “God, I want to experience the life of faith that you give us, through Jesus, more fully. Teach me to imitate Jesus, make me a person who sees that all things really are possible for those who believe.” Slide25:  tvc 3 Prayers “God, is there more than this that I should expect? I want to believe in your son Jesus, and trust You to be the ruler of my life. Please help my unbelief and make it possible for me to trust you. I only have a little faith but I believe that you will meet me and that its possible for you”
