Accessibility – No copyright payment. Motivational tool to gain interest in the topic or to trigger a quick response. Provide authenticity and immediacy. Spark curiosity of how the material will be used in the classroom. Sum up immediately what a teacher may take too long to explain. Help the students gain knowledge and understand the wider world. Why Use Movie Segments? : Why Use Movie Segments? Act as prompts for tasks, such as ordering and sequencing events. Extend students’ attention span. Students enjoy taking a break from traditional reading, writing, and grammar classes. Present language in a way that is often more natural than that found in course books. Provide fantastic visual context aids, boost listening, and students love them. Tips on How to Prepare an Effective Grammar Activity : Tips on How to Prepare an Effective Grammar Activity Segment length: from 2 to 7 minutes Subtitles: On or Off? The whole activity should not last longer than 20 to 25 minutes. Peers may work individually or in pairs Do not let the students do the exercises while they are watching the segment Make sure the students write down their answers Tell the students they’re not supposed to understand every single word to perform the tasks.
