The basic tenets of life coaching: The basic tenets of life coaching Life coaching in simple terms can be defined as type of coaching that helps people in identifying and achieving personal goals during major transition phases of their lives. Life coaching draws upon a different types of tools and techniques from other disciplines such as sociology, psychology, career counseling and positive adult development aspects to help people plan their goals and take steps to realize these goals. Professionals in this field acting as life coaches are not necessarily therapists, consultants or health care providers. Life coach offers advice and guidance to deal with change that will put their clients on the path to success. The life coaching has emerged as a specialized profession that addresses specific personal projects, general conditions, business successes and transitions of the concerned client’s personal life, relationships or profession by examining what is going on right now. It also involves discovering their (clients) obstacles or challenges and helping them in choosing a course of action to make their life what they wanted it to be. Life coach offers guidance to all types of people in different stages of their lives. For instance, some of the life coaches may focus particularly on certain type of solutions such as like advancing careers while others may be able to guide their clients with nearly any life transition. Designing a personal success step plan for the client to follow is one of the ways of helping him or her in achieving their life goals. A life coach’s duty is to keep track of their client’s progress by giving them action oriented homework assignments that are designed to help them move towards their goals. Finally, life coach not only demands accountability from his/her clients but also acts as a source of inspiration and encouragement.
