Need for Information Exchange Standards:  Need for Information Exchange Standards Industry faces heterogeneous CAD/CAE environment -- in constant state of flux Process plant typical life 25-50 years CAE/CAD technology cycle 5-10 years Technical information is reused over the life of the project, process, and plant Large savings possible when engineering, procurement, construction, and operation can use diverse CAE/CAD and ERP systems Standards enable these savings What is a STEP Application Protocol?:  What is a STEP Application Protocol?
